My Story.
Hi, my name is Jacqueline de la Cruz and here’s my story.
I worked in R&D for about 10 years as an electrical engineer (please don't ask me about circuits) and eventually got bored of it all - the office, the lab, the routine hours, the whole corporate lifestyle in general. And more importantly, I knew it wasn't what I was meant to do. So I left.
I decided, "I'm gonna be a florist!" Because what could be further from engineering and the corporate world than that? I also happen to love flowers of course. I did the courses and got a certificate. I currently work with a great team and enjoy helping clients. So I am now a happy, part-time florist!
Full-time, I love rabbits. Yes, bunnies. I have two of my own and bunnysit on the side (check out Bonjour Bunny). I also volunteer for the Quebec Rabbit Rescue, helping with adoption clinics and dehydrating fruit for fundraising.
So part-time florist, full-time bunny lover and… accidental blackboard artist?! Yes, this was all a fortunate accident! I was relaxing on the couch one night, checking Facebook, and came across a friend’s post on how they needed someone to write & draw on blackboards for their restaurants. Anyone who knows me, knows that I love lettering. I was a bit hesitant with the drawing part of it, but their post had one encouraging requirement – “Must be better than my 4 yr old”. So I thought to myself, “Well, I do like chalk art and hmmm… I guess I can draw better than a 4 year old!”. So I replied to the post, offering my time and quickly provided a sample of my hand-lettering. That was in June 2016. Long story short, what I thought would be a few hours of volunteer work has taken me here today.
